EPC for Dewatering System at Hammar Mishrif DGS-1 and N-DGS

Boabat Alnoor is delivering an integrated Groundwater Dewatering System EPC project for Eni / ZFOD across Hammar Mishrif DGS-1 and N-DGS facilities in the Al-Zubair Oil Field, protecting buildings and electrical infrastructure through artesian wells, submersible pumps, HDPE piping, instrumentation, and centralized PLC/HMI automation.

Boabat Alnoor is delivering an integrated Groundwater Dewatering System for the Hammar Mishrif DGS-1 and N-DGS facilities in the Al-Zubair Oil Field, Basra, Iraq, for ZFOD / Eni Iraq B.V. The project is designed to control groundwater around existing buildings and facilities, protecting foundations, electrical systems and sensitive instrumentation from groundwater-related damage.

Scope

Boabat Alnoor's scope covers the complete EPC cycle — engineering, procurement, construction, installation, testing and commissioning — integrating civil, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and automation works into one complete dewatering solution.

  • Installation of artesian wells around the facilities to control and lower the groundwater level.
  • Supply and installation of submersible pumps for groundwater extraction.
  • Installation of water level sensors and pressure transmitters for continuous monitoring of groundwater conditions.
  • Installation of Remote Control Units (RCUs) and field instrument panels for signal collection and transmission.
  • Construction of an HDPE piping network to convey extracted groundwater to the collection and discharge facilities.
  • Installation of electrical panels, LV power cables and instrumentation cables for the complete pumping and monitoring system.
  • Integration, testing and commissioning of the complete PLC/HMI-based control system.

Groundwater collection and discharge

Groundwater extracted from the wells is conveyed through a network of HDPE pipes to an external collection pit. The pit is equipped with water level sensors, pressure transmitters and two submersible pumps operating according to a predefined control scenario to maintain the required water level and prevent overflow.

The system also measures the quantity of extracted groundwater and records the total volume in cubic metres. Collected water is then pumped through HDPE piping to an external discharge pit located outside the buildings for final discharge in accordance with project and site requirements.

Electrical & instrumentation

The electrical and instrumentation package provides the power, measurement and field control infrastructure required for automatic operation of the dewatering system. The works include:

  • Low Voltage (LV) power cables for the submersible pumps.
  • Instrumentation cables for field transmitters and control signals.
  • Electrical and instrumentation panels.
  • Pressure transmitters for system pressure monitoring.
  • Level transmitters for continuous groundwater level measurement.
  • Main electrical panel integration for automatic pump start and stop control.

PLC & HMI automation

All field instruments are integrated with a centralized PLC control system that receives and processes real-time data from the wells and collection pit. Based on measured groundwater levels and predefined operating parameters, the system automatically starts and stops the submersible pumps through the Remote Control Units.

A centralized HMI provides operators with real-time visibility of water levels, pressure, pump status, pump faults, alarms and the total volume of groundwater extracted. This gives the control room continuous visibility of system and site operating conditions.

Project outcome

The integrated system provides continuous groundwater control, automatic pump operation and real-time monitoring while protecting buildings, foundations and electrical equipment. The solution is designed to support safe and stable operation of the Hammar Mishrif DGS-1 and N-DGS facilities.
