Electrical Supply to the Supplementary Buildings of Al-Zubair Tower

Boabat Alnoor is delivering electrical infrastructure works for the supplementary buildings of Al-Zubair Tower as part of the Digital Oilfield Pilot Project, including 11 kV underground cabling, a new 11/0.4 kV Package Substation, RMU, LV distribution, earthing, and connection to the PPG Electrical Substation.

Boabat Alnoor is delivering electrical infrastructure works for the supplementary buildings of Al-Zubair Tower at the Al-Zubair Oil Field, Basra, Iraq, for ZFOD / Eni Iraq B.V. The works form part of the Digital Oilfield Pilot Project and are designed to provide reliable electrical power to selected buildings and facilities within the field.

A key objective of the project is to reduce the electrical load on the National Grid by connecting selected facilities to the PPG Electrical Substation, while improving power distribution and supporting the operational requirements of the associated buildings.

Scope

The project combines medium-voltage and low-voltage electrical works with the associated civil, earthing and infrastructure requirements. The principal scope includes:

  • Detailed site survey and engineering assessment.
  • Removal of existing 11 kV poles.
  • Installation of new 11 kV underground cables.
  • 11 kV cable splicing and end terminations.
  • Installation of a new 11/0.4 kV Package Substation (PSS).
  • Installation of a new 11 kV Ring Main Unit (RMU).
  • Construction of the package substation foundation and sunshade.
  • Installation of substation fencing.
  • Supply and installation of new LV Distribution Boards.
  • Installation of new H-poles.
  • Installation of a three-phase gang-operated knife switch.
  • Installation of a new earthing system.
  • Connection of selected buildings to the PPG Electrical Substation.

11 kV infrastructure

The medium-voltage works include the transition from sections of the existing overhead infrastructure to new 11 kV underground cabling, including cable splicing and end terminations. A new 11 kV Ring Main Unit provides the required switching arrangement for the upgraded distribution system.

Package substation & LV distribution

A new 11/0.4 kV Package Substation is installed to provide the transformation and distribution required for the supplementary buildings. The works include the associated foundation, protective sunshade, fencing and new LV Distribution Boards, providing a complete interface between the medium-voltage network and the facilities served by the project.

Engineering & technical execution

Boabat Alnoor performs the required site surveys, engineering assessments, technical documentation, drawings and engineering reports for Client review and approval. Electrical works are executed in accordance with approved engineering documents, project specifications, applicable safety procedures and the operational requirements of the Al-Zubair Oil Field.

Testing, commissioning & energization

The project includes testing, commissioning and energization of the complete electrical installation, including:

  • Testing, commissioning and energization of the 11 kV systems.
  • Testing and commissioning of the new Package Substation.
  • Testing and commissioning of the 11 kV Ring Main Unit.
  • Testing and commissioning of the earthing system.
  • Testing of the complete electrical distribution system.
  • Full system energization and operational testing.

Project outcome

The project provides modern electrical infrastructure designed to reduce National Grid loading and deliver a more reliable and efficient power supply to the Al-Zubair Tower supplementary buildings. The new 11/0.4 kV substation, RMU, underground cable network and LV distribution infrastructure provide the basis for safe and stable electrical operation of the connected facilities.
