Containerized Substation Solution for Essential / External Load Segregation
BN executed the Zubair DGS Electrical LV Load Separation project to improve the reliability and operational security of the Degassing Station electrical network. The existing DGS substation was supplying both essential production loads and a range of external non-process loads, including offices, workshops and caravans. As the combined demand increased, the loading approached and at times exceeded the practical capacity of the existing substation, creating the risk of overload conditions and the need to shed or shut down selected loads.
The project therefore established a dedicated electrical supply path for the external loads, separating them from the DGS essential production loads. This segregation reduces loading pressure on the existing DGS substation, improves selectivity between essential and non-essential consumers, and supports greater continuity of power to production-critical equipment.
BN executed the Zubair DGS Electrical LV Load Separation project to improve the reliability and capacity of the DGS power-distribution system. The project separated external loads such as offices, workshops and caravans from the DGS essential production loads through a new containerized electrical substation. The solution integrates 11 kV switchgear, a 1250 kVA 11/0.4 kV transformer, and 0.4 kV switchgear equipped with an Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) for reliable changeover between grid and diesel-generator supplies. BN also completed the associated MV and LV cabling, terminations, testing and commissioning, providing a dedicated and reliable power source for the external loads while reducing stress on the existing DGS substation and supporting continuous production operations.
