Containerized Substation Solution for Essential / External Load Segregation

Project Overview

BN executed the Zubair DGS Electrical LV Load Separation project to improve the reliability and operational security of the Degassing Station electrical network. The existing DGS substation was supplying both essential production loads and a range of external non-process loads, including offices, workshops and caravans. As the combined demand increased, the loading approached and at times exceeded the practical capacity of the existing substation, creating the risk of overload conditions and the need to shed or shut down selected loads.

The project therefore established a dedicated electrical supply path for the external loads, separating them from the DGS essential production loads. This segregation reduces loading pressure on the existing DGS substation, improves selectivity between essential and non-essential consumers, and supports greater continuity of power to production-critical equipment.

BN Scope of Work

  • Engineering, supply, installation, integration, testing and commissioning of a new containerized electrical substation (KIOSK) includes 11 kV medium-voltage switchgear, 1250 kVA, 11/0.4 kV distribution transformer, and 0.4 kV LV switchgear equipped with Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) functionality.
  • Integration of the LV system with both grid and diesel-generator power sources to improve power availability for the separated external loads.
  • Provision of multiple 0.4 kV outgoing feeders for offices, workshops, caravans and associated external consumers.
  • Supply, laying, termination, testing and commissioning of the required MV and LV power cables and associated accessories.
  • Modification and connection works required to transfer the external loads from the existing DGS substation to the new dedicated substation.

The solution integrates 11 kV switchgear, a 1250 kVA 11/0.4 kV transformer, and 0.4 kV switchgear equipped with an Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) for reliable changeover between grid and diesel-generator supplies.
