Boabat Alnoor Company (BN) delivered the turnkey Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for the ESP OHTL Ring Main Phase 1 project in Area C of the Rumaila Oil Field for Rumaila Operating Organisation (ROO). The infrastructure project established a permanent, resilient 11 kV electrical distribution ring main network, systematically replacing decentralized diesel generators to ensure continuous, high-reliability power for Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP) operations.
Scope
The contract comprised two single-circuit 11 kV overhead transmission line ring mains, covering full EPC lifecycle delivery:
- Comprehensive topographical, route, geotechnical, and obstacle surveys, alongside 42 km of Right-of-Way (ROW) corridor development.
- Detailed engineering, including structural tower foundation design, electrical ETAP simulations (load-flow, short-circuit, earth-fault), and protection relay coordination.
- Turnkey procurement and logistics for steel lattice towers, ACSR conductors, insulators, OPGW, underground cables, and switchgear.
- Civil and foundation works: excavations, RC foundation casting, backfilling, compaction, cable trenching, and trenchless road/pipeline crossings.
- Erection of steel lattice towers, landing gantries, and structural mounting platforms for skid units.
- Tension stringing of ACSR LARK conductors, installation and splicing of 48-core OPGW shield wire, and fiber-optic junction box terminations.
- Underground 11 kV cable laying, glanding, terminations, and tie-ins connecting the overhead network to RMU skids and ESP Variable Speed Drives (VSD).
- Subsurface earthing grid installation, lightning protection systems, pre-commissioning, functional testing, network energisation, and final handover dossiers.
Key Deliverables & Quantities
The Phase 1 infrastructure network spans substantial civil, mechanical, and high-voltage electrical assets:
- Connected Wells: 30 ESP wellheads electrified (14 wells on Ring Main 1 and 16 wells on Ring Main 2).
- Towers & Gantries: 425 fabricated steel lattice towers and 2 terminal landing gantries.
- Overhead Conductors: 34.86 km of ACSR LARK 11 kV transmission line conductor installed.
- Optical Ground Wire (OPGW): 34.86 km of 48-core single-mode OPGW strung and spliced for telecommunications and SCADA protection.
- Cabling Infrastructure: 20,606 m of 1 × 300 mm² medium-voltage (MV) cable and 7.5 km of dedicated fiber optic cable.
- Skid Assemblies: 30 Ring Main Connection Skids installed and integrated (each housing an 11 kV RMU, 11/0.42 kV step-down transformer, LV switchboard, and adaptive harmonic filter).
- Right-of-Way (ROW): 42 km of prepared access and utility corridors.
HSE Performance & Delivery
Executed inside high-risk, live production areas and active crossing corridors, the project was delivered with an exceptional safety record:
- Total Man-Hours: 482,968 safe working hours completed.
- Lost Time Injuries (LTI): Zero injuries recorded (TRIFR Zero).
- Transport Safety: 3,276,000 km driven across rough oilfield routes without incident.
- Critical Operations: 11,000 heavy crane lifts and 20 major electrical energy-isolation operations safely executed under strict ROO PTW frameworks.
