ESP OHTL Ring Main Phase 1, 2 & 3 Projects

Boabat Alnoor executed the full EPC delivery of 11 kV overhead transmission line (OHTL) ring mains for ROO in Rumaila, replacing diesel generators with a centralized grid network supplying 117 ESP wells across 1,289 towers and 327 km of conductor lines.

Boabat Alnoor executed the turnkey Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for the 11 kV Overhead Transmission Line (OHTL) Ring Main Phases 1, 2 & 3 in the Rumaila Oil Field for Rumaila Operating Organisation (ROO). The major infrastructure scheme transitioned 117 ESP wells from temporary local diesel generators to a permanent, centralized 11 kV power distribution ring main energized from Central Production Stations CPS-4, CPS-5, and CPS-9.

Scope

The contract covered full EPC responsibilities from design and ground surveys through to final energisation and provisional acceptance, including:

  • Topographic surveys, geotechnical investigations, route alignment, and detailed engineering design for transmission lines and civil foundations.
  • Procurement and supply of transmission towers, ACSR conductors, OPGW cables, Ring Main Unit (RMU) skids, step-down transformers, and harmonic filters.
  • Civil foundation construction, structural tower assembly, and erection across remote oilfield terrain.
  • Conductor tension stringing, OPGW installation, optical fiber splicing, testing, and telecommunication terminations.
  • Installation and interface connection of skid-mounted RMUs, step-down transformers, and harmonic filter units.
  • Medium voltage (11 kV) indoor and outdoor cable laying, glanding, and high-spec stress-control terminations.
  • System pre-commissioning, testing, network energisation, and mechanical completion handover to ROO operations.

Key Project Quantities

The network represents one of the largest continuous field electrification and transmission expansions in the region:

  • Connected Wells: 117 ESP wellheads integrated into the centralized grid.
  • Transmission Towers: 1,289 lattice and pole transmission towers fabricated and erected.
  • Conductor Stringing: Approx. 327 km of ACSR "Lark" transmission line conductor installed.
  • OPGW Shield Wire: 112 km of Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) strung, spliced, and tested for line protection and SCADA communications.
  • Fiber Optic Cabling: 35 km of supplementary FOC cable infrastructure.
  • Ring Main Units: 117 RMU skids installed and connected directly at well distribution nodes.
  • 11 kV Power Cabling: 71 km of 11 kV medium-voltage power cables laid, routed, and terminated.

How it is delivered

Executing an OHTL network across an active oilfield required continuous coordination with ROO operations, crossing live flowlines, pipelines, and access corridors under strict SIMOPS and PTW regimes. Civil foundation teams, erection crews, and tension-stringing units operated in sequenced work-fronts to minimize footprint and eliminate downtime to active production.

Every line section and RMU node underwent rigorous QA/QC inspection, including tower torque verification, high-voltage insulation tests, OTDR fiber testing, and protection relay calibrations before commercial cutover from diesel power to the CPS transmission grid.
