EPC – 11 kV Power Distribution and Load Segregation – LSC Area

Project Overview

BN is executing the EPC Field Electrical Integration works in the LSC Area of Zubair Oil Field to reorganize and segregate medium-voltage loads at the LSC substation. The project introduces a dedicated 11 kV switchgear lineup housed within an electrical container (kiosk), providing a structured and protected distribution arrangement for the existing and future LSC electrical loads. The issued single-line diagram identifies a 12 kV-class, 1600 A, 50 Hz switchgear system rated for 25 kA for 1 second. The arrangement is supplied from a 132/11 kV, 20 MVA transformer and includes dedicated outgoing feeders for the 4 MW BOC Officers Old City and 4 MW BOC Officers New City loads, together with a spare outgoing feeder for future expansion.

Scope of Work

•EPC engineering and field integration of the new 11 kV medium-voltage distribution arrangement at the LSC substation.
  • Supply and installation of the 11 kV switchgear lineup inside a dedicated electrical container / kiosk.
  • Reconfiguration and segregation of LSC electrical loads through dedicated outgoing feeders.
  • Integration of the new switchgear with the existing 132/11 kV, 20 MVA transformer supply
  • Installation and connection of MV, LV, control, protection, auxiliary and grounding circuits associated with the electrical shelter and switchgear.
  • Integration of metering and numerical protection functions shown on the project SLD, including ABB VD4 circuit breakers, REX615 protection relays and multifunction metering.
  • Installation / restoration of container auxiliary systems and site interfaces, including HVAC, grounding, cable entries, lighting and internal-arc gas exhaust provisions where applicable.
  • Inspection, testing, pre-commissioning and commissioning of the integrated electrical system in accordance with project requirements and vendor instructions.
  • Electrical Container / Kiosk Integration

The project electrical equipment is housed in Electrical Container 009100ES001A. The vendor manual describes the CE-S shelter concept as a factory-integrated electrical room intended to accommodate switchboards and associated equipment, reducing the amount of site assembly required and providing a controlled environment for the installed electrical systems.

    Project Value

The project strengthens the LSC medium-voltage distribution system by separating major electrical loads into dedicated protected feeders rather than maintaining them on a less-segregated arrangement. This improves operational selectivity, facilitates isolation and maintenance of individual load groups, provides clearer protection and metering boundaries, and introduces spare capacity for future electrical expansion. By combining a modern 11 kV switchgear lineup with a factory-integrated electrical kiosk, the solution provides a compact and controlled substation extension suitable for field installation while supporting safe operation, maintainability and reliable power distribution within the LSC Area.

    Project Description

BN executed the EPC electrical integration works for the LSC Area at Zubair Oil Field, delivering a new 11 kV medium-voltage switchgear system housed within a dedicated electrical kiosk. The project was developed to segregate and reorganize the LSC substation loads through dedicated protected feeders supplied from the existing 132/11 kV transformer. The 1600 A, 25 kA switchgear arrangement incorporates vacuum circuit breakers, numerical protection, multifunction metering, 110 VDC control systems and a spare feeder for future expansion. The scope also covers electrical-container integration, grounding, cable interfaces, auxiliary systems, testing and commissioning, providing a safer, more maintainable and reliable medium-voltage distribution solution for the LSC facilities.
