CPS09 E-House and Transformers Installation

Boabat Alnoor Company delivered a major power infrastructure upgrade at CPS09 for ROO, integrating a new 11 kV E-House substation, two 132/11.5 kV power transformers, auxiliary electrical systems, and extensive MV/LV cabling with full testing and commissioning.

Boabat Alnoor Company (BN) executed the major electrical construction, installation, testing, and commissioning works for the CPS09 power infrastructure upgrade in the South Rumaila Oil Field for Rumaila Operating Organisation (ROO). The project integrated a new 11 kV E-House substation with two 132/11.5 kV, 50/63 MVA power transformers and associated auxiliary electrical systems, establishing a robust and reliable power supply platform for the CPS09 facility and the Area G ESP distribution network.

Scope

The contract delivered a full-spectrum electrical construction, cabling, and commissioning package, covering:

  • Installation, positioning, and mechanical securing of major substation equipment, power transformers, and neutral earthing systems.
  • Supply and installation of heavy-duty cable ladder systems, supports, risers, covers, and fittings across the facility.
  • Laying, pull-through, dressing, and end-termination of high-spec medium voltage (MV), low voltage (LV), and control cables.
  • Fabrication and installation of outdoor facility lighting, structural poles, and hazardous-area lighting junction boxes.
  • Site earthing grid installation, bonding, earth pits, and continuity verification across all installed equipment.
  • Electrical testing, pre-commissioning, and full integrated commissioning support prior to system energisation.

Key Equipment & Quantities

The upgrade centered on utility-scale power equipment and extensive containment and cabling infrastructure:

  • Substation & Transformers: 11 kV E-House Substation, two 132/11.5 kV (50/63 MVA) Power Transformers, two 750 kVA Distribution Transformers, two Zig-Zag Earthing Transformers, and two Neutral Earthing Resistors (NERs).
  • MV Cabling: Approx. 11.39 km of 11 kV MV cables (1C x 500 mm² and 1C x 240 mm²), completed with 136 sets of certified 11 kV terminations.
  • LV & Control Cabling: Approx. 5.37 km of LV power, control, and lighting cables, completed with 162 LV power cable end terminations.
  • Cable Ladder System: Approx. 500 m of heavy-duty cable ladder networks with associated bends, covers, and structural accessories.
  • Earthing & Protection: Approx. 2.5 km of bare copper earthing conductors (240, 120, 70, and 35 mm²) and 18 deep earth pits with 3 m copper earth rods.
  • Outdoor Lighting: 26 industrial lighting fixtures, 14 lighting poles (4 x 10 m and 10 x 8 m), and 22 lighting junction boxes.

How it is delivered

The installation was executed inside an active oilfield facility under stringent ROO HSE frameworks and permit-to-work (PTW) standards. Specialized electrical and commissioning crews carried out cable pulling, specialized MV terminations, and precision rigging for heavy transformer units.

Quality and integrity checks were maintained at every phase, including insulation resistance (Megger) tests, Hi-Pot cable testing, torque verification on terminations, and complete functional testing of substation control and protection interfaces before handover.
